12. Will AI Replace Doctors or Just Their Paperwork? A CMO/CIO’s 10-Year View at a Brooklyn Safety-Net Hospital
Date & Time
Wednesday, September 16, 2026, 8:35 AM - 9:15 AM
Description

1. Separate hype from durable AI trends in clinical medicine over the next 10 years, including which use cases are most likely to change day-to-day clinical work versus staying on the fringe.
2.     Describe a practical AI roadmap for safety-net and community hospitals, including how an independent, 464-bed hospital has deployed:
·        an AI-enabled nursing handoff tool to identify patients at risk of deterioration,
·        commercial AI for large vessel occlusion detection in stroke, and
·        generative AI within Epic to compose clinician emails and reduce documentation friction.
3.     Identify three concrete moves leaders can make in the next 12–24 months to prepare for the coming decade of AI:
·        using AI to materially decrease documentation pressures,
·        using AI as a “guide layer” to help patients and clinicians navigate digital front doors and websites, and
·        tightening AI-driven clinical decision support for early recognition of sick inpatients.
4.     Articulate a balanced view of AI and empathy in clinical practice, addressing physicians’ fears of replacement and outlining how AI can extend, rather than erode, clinicians’ diagnostic and relational roles.
