Melanie Rodgers, RN, MSN, CPN, BRMP graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) with a Bachelor of Music focusing on vocal performance in May of 2000. She then completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 2006 from Winston Salem State University. She completed her Master’s in Nursing Leadership from UNCG in March 2023. She is a certified pediatric nurse and holds a certification as a business relationship manager professional. In her 18-year nursing career, Melanie served as a staff nurse in an Adult
Cardiothoracic Step-Down Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH), but then transitioned to pediatrics holding staff nursing roles in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Medical Surgical Unit, Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care, and Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic. Her first leadership role was in the Pediatric Sedation Suite where she managed scheduling cases and offering nursing support for pediatric endoscopies, colonoscopies, lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirations, and other procedures performed under deep sedation. She moved into the information technology world starting out in Nursing Informatics and then evolved into a Business Relationship Manager serving as a liaison between information technology and ambulatory nursing, lab services, pharmacy, endoscopy, and pediatrics converting highly technical concepts into simple business language. She ended her 12-year career at WFBH in December 2018 and began a new venture at Cone Health Cancer Center at Wesley Long Hospital as their Assistant Director of Nursing in December 2018
overseeing their Infusion Suite and the Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Gynecology Oncology Clinics. In April 2022, she assumed additional leadership over the Cone Health Cancer Center at Drawbridge MedCenter. Melanie entered the Navy in October 2002 as a personnel specialist and received a Direct Commission in the Nurse Corps in October 2006 after completing her nursing degree. Her assignments in the Navy Reserve have included supporting the Camp Lejeune NICU, Medical Center San Diego PICU, Medical Center Portsmouth Pediatric Infusion Suite, and various leadership roles including Officer in Charge, Information Technology Officer, and Command Metrics and Compliance Officer. She currently serves as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Expeditionary Medical Facility Bethesda and was promoted to the rank of Commander in August 2021. Melanie currently resides in Greensboro, NC with the two loves or her life, her children, Lily (12) and Thomas (7). Singing in church, playing the piano, performing in local community theater, and spending time with her children are her favorite hobbies outside of work.
